At the most recent World Workplace in Nashville, Tennessee, IFMA recognized the stand-out achievements of both individuals and chapters with the annual Awards of Excellence.
Awards of Excellence nominees are scored individually across a variety of category-specific criteria by judging panels comprised of industry experts. In addition to recognizing exceptional contributions to the association by individual members and component groups (chapters, councils, and communities), IFMA honors outstanding examples of facility management (FM) initiative with the George Graves Award for Facility Management Achievement and the Sheila Sheridan Award for Sustainable Facility Operations and Management, and creative projects/practices with the FM Innovation Award.
This year, the Greater Triangle Chapter of IFMA brought home the award for Web Communications. This award is a culmination of efforts designed and undertaken to increase awareness of chapter activities post-pandemic. Coming out of the pandemic, it has been important to the chapter to reengage our members and remind them of their benefits and events. Updating our website to include the most up-to-date information and sharing information via social media have been key components of the communication strategy.
Under the leadership of Nicole Stetkiewicz and Betsy Clark, the 2021-2022 Communications Committee, comprised of Penny McGhee and Hubert King, developed a social media strategy geared toward educating existing members and attracting new members. Within eleven months, the LinkedIn page gained 377 followers, and the chapter created over 180 posts. The website was reviewed, broken links were fixed, and pages were updated with the input of each committee. With the collaboration of other committees, the chapter added a mentorship page and updated the advocacy day, professional development, and chapter information pages, to name a few.
