The Facilities Technician oversees the day-to-day operations, security, and maintenance of the Extreme Networks in Morrisville, NC. The Facilities team provides and maintains operations and services for the combined office personnel, Engineering and Labs/Data Center atmosphere containing electrical and mechanical engineering (MEP/HVAC) systems. Facilities Technicians at Extreme operate, monitor, and support physical facility conditions. Some of these duties will include heating and cooling of air and water, power supply, generators, UPS systems, electrical distribution and controls and monitoring systems. You regularly help inspect, maintain, and provide guidance to services vendors for repair of various data center systems such as piping and non-critical electrical or mechanical system components. You provide daily assistance to lab and data center personnel as you work with and aid, coordination, conduct tours of systems, and assess their working order/needs.
Responsibilities
- Inspect, maintain, and repair various data center systems such as piping and mechanical system components.
- Provide daily assistance to technicians as you read blueprints/schematics/sequence of operations, conduct tours of systems, and assess their working order.
- Manage the uptime and maintenance Equipment associated with the operations and treatment systems, HVAC, Generator and UPS while controlling and monitoring systems.
- Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in the data center facilities systems and equipment.
- Support startup, commissioning, and integration of new mechanical equipment and systems into facilities infrastructure.
- Supervises contractors and monitors work to ensure proper OSHA and State standards, workmanship, and scope.
- Obtain competitive contractor bids as prescribed in the company’s Regional Control Framework.
- Processes POs and invoices as required.
- Ensures compliance with applicable regulations including but not limited to construction permits, environmental compliance, waste disposal, building and fire codes.
- Completes the necessary facility repairs consisting of but not limited to painting, wall repair, HVAC repairs, Plumbing System repairs, access controls, CCTV repairs, and other general maintenance as required.
- Available for scheduled and on-call consultations and/or work to support business operations 24/7 365.
- Works closely with the Building Manager on facility issues and other landlord related issues.
- Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in the data center facilities systems and equipment.
- Manage the uptime and maintenance Equipment associated with the operations and treatment systems, HVAC, Generator and UPS while controlling and monitoring systems.
- Experience with Data Center and Data Center operations preferred.
- Associate degree, trade school certification, and/or other certified training in a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3 years of Mechanical/Electrical and HVAC experience in industrial or commercial environment.
- Ability to work non-standard hours/work providing On Call rotation.
- Ability to lift and move 50 lbs. of equipment, and work on platforms, ladders, and under raised floors.
- Demonstrated communication effectiveness, with the ability to communicate complex technical information.
- Experience in MS office, WD, Excel, PPT and Industry software
- Must work independently without direct supervision.
- 3 years of experience in maintenance of mechanical/cooling distribution systems or construction/technical environment or a related field.
- Experience in data centers, hospitals, or power plants.
- Knowledge of mechanical systems used in a data center environment (e.g. Chillers, Air handling units, pumps and CRAC/CRAH units) and Electrical Systems.
- Knowledge of meters, devices, sensors, and troubleshooting utilizing standard hand tools, digital metering, or calibration/diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to communicate with contractors who perform maintenance or upgrade work on the data center systems.
