The Greater Triangle Chapter – Chapter Information

Chapter Information

Facility Management is a profession that encompasses multiple disciplines to ensure functionality of the built environment by integrating people, place, process, and technology.

The Greater Triangle Chapter of IFMA’s has evolved over the years since the chapter’s revitalization in the late 1990’s. It has become a consistent and reliable news source designed to educate and communicate with our chapter members and local facilities professionals. The newsletter is a monthly publication and each year the Greater Triangle Chapter strives to improve communication standards as part of our overall Strategic Planning process.

The first edition of our newsletter was created in October 1999 by Buck Fisher who was then president of the newly resurrected chapter. As membership grew and volunteers became more abundant, a Publicity Committee was formed. The committee has expanded functions to encompass public relations, chapter branding, web site development and maintenance.

The Greater Triangle Chapter web site has been active since November 2002. The creation of our web site produced a single source of communication to keep our members informed and in touch with current chapter and organization activities, related events, opportunities and facilities news in general. The web site has gone through two redesigns one in 2007 and again in 2011

From April 2004 – 2009 our chapter membership increased over 30 percent to approximately 220 members. With advancement into IFMA’s “large chapter” category, and through feedback from our annual membership survey, it became increasingly apparent that our communications resources needed to evolve to meet the growth and demands of the chapter and Facilities Management (FM) community.

In 2008 the Publicity Committee was given responsibility of replacing the previous paper version of the newsletter with an exciting new cost effective and environmentally sustainable “E-Newsletter”. We believe that the newsletter has played an important role in maintaining our membership level of 220 individuals at a time when other chapters and professional organizations are losing members.

The Greater Triangle Chapter was honored by winning the Chapter Award of Excellence 2009 for Newsletter from IFMA National.

Through dedication and commitment of volunteers, we are confident that we will continue to evolve and help keep our members active, educated, involved and informed.
